This is another one of my family recipes I’m trying to get organized, so I can easily reference it. This Glorified Potatoes Recipe is from my mom, and is a side dish she made that is super easy to throw together and bake. If you like your potatoes with sour cream and cheese, and who doesn’t, you need to give this recipe a shot.

What Are Glorified Potatoes?
Ever hear of funeral potatoes? That’s the potato dish you’ll normally find at funeral luncheons.
I’d much rather use potluck potatoes or glorified potatoes. Something a bit more up lifting than funeral potatoes. Glorified Potatoes are a typically found at potlucks and gatherings. It’s a cheesy hash brown casserole that you make with frozen potatoes, sour cream, cheese, and some type of crunch layer for the top.

What exactly do we need for our Glorified Potatoes Recipe?
- Frozen Hash Browns
- Melted Butter
- Cream of Chicken Soup
- Sour Cream
- Shredded Cheddar Cheese
- Onion
- Salt & Pepper
- Topping – Bread Crumbs, Corn Flakes, or Potato Chips
You can prep this in under 15 minutes, it just takes a bit more time to bake.
You’ll want to partially thaw the frozen hash browns for at least an hour on the counter. You can also dump the hash browns in a colander and run some warm water over them to speed up the thawing process. Just be sure to let the potatoes drain. Melt the butter so it blends nicely with the other ingredients. Mix everything but the topping in a bowl, and transfer to a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish, and bake for an hour.
For the topping you have options. I use bread crumbs because it’s easy. You can also use crackers, potato chips, or corn flakes, but you’ll need to crush them up in a ziplock bag before using.
