Microwave Omelette

Can you cook eggs in the microwave? You sure can, and this Microwave Omelette is a super fast way to cook yourself a tasty breakfast. It’s one of my go to breakfasts in the morning when I don’t have any egg bites on hand, and the low-calorie / low-carb content make this an ideal meal for weight loss.

Microwave Omelette

How do eggs taste cooked in the microwave? They are actually pretty darn good. This microwave omelette is so easy to make, and you have unlimited options to customize your eggs.

Microwave Omelette Prep

I came up with this Microwave Omelette recipe because I wanted a quick breakfast I could eat on the road during my morning commute. It’s also a low-carb meal which is a kick I get on when I’m trying to lose weight. I do limit the number of add-in’s when I’m counting calories, but that shouldn’t stop you from customizing this omelette to your liking.

The add-in possibilities are endless. You can toss in any of the following when mixing up the egg mixture:

  • Cheese
  • Spinach
  • Ham, Bacon, or Cooked Sausage
  • Roasted Red Peppers or Green Peppers
  • Mushrooms
  • Hot Sauce
  • Salt, Pepper, or Season Salt

So how do we do go about this microwave egg thing? Take a small bowl, spray it with some cooking spray, and crack two eggs into the bowl. Customize with your add-ins of choice, scramble, and microwave for no more than 2 minutes. Done! I’m talking prep to meal in under 5 minutes.

A Fluffy Omelette

There’s this thing called the two ingredient fluffy omelette. Not only does this advocate for the Microwave Omelette, it amplifies it. Adding a teaspoon of mayonnaise to the egg mixture will create an even more extreme omelette. We are talking about fluff that only a restaurant can match. Now this isn’t something I typically do since I’m making this dish as a low-calorie meal, and I don’t need those extra calories.

Having said that, I may have experimented with this fluffy art concept on my cheat days, and it does indeed add some “fluff” to said omelette.

  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 1 Pinch Salt or Season Salt
  • 1 Dash Hot Sauce
  • 1 Tsp Cheese – more or less to taste

Equipment

  • 1 Microwaveable Bowl - I use a typical cereal bowl

Method

  1. Spray a microwaveable bowl with cooking spray
  2. Crack eggs into bowl and add salt, cheese, and hot sauce
  3. Whisk with fork until blended
  4. Microwave on high for 1 minute 30 seconds. Flip egg, and continue microwaving for an additional 20 – 30 seconds
  5. Flip omelette onto plat and serve

Notes

  1. If using add-in’s mix into the egg mixture before microwaving
  2. Cooking times may vary based on microwave wattage. I find at 2 minutes the eggs are slightly over cooked. The ideal cooking time for my eggs is 1 minute 50 seconds.
