- Boil Lasagna Noodles (El dante) and set aside
- Brown Ground Sausage
- Add Onion to Sausage and cook over low heat for 5 minutes. Add Garlic and cook for 2 additional minutes.
- Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, salt, pepper, basil, and oregano to meat and simmer for 30 minutes.
- While tomato sauce is simmering. Combine cottage cheese, 1/4 cup of the parmesan cheese, and egg in a separate bowl and set aside.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Grease 9 x 13 inch baking pan and layer meat, noodle, cottage cheese mixture, and cheese. See notes below.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes. Sprinkle with mozzarella and parmesan cheese and bake uncovered for 10 - 15 minutes. Remove and let rest for 10 minutes. Slice into 10 equal pieces and serve.
Notes
To layer lasagna:
- Add a small amount of the meat sauce to the bottom of the baking dish, and layer 3 lasagna noodles over sauce.
- Layer with a third of the remaining meat sauce, cottage cheese mixture, mozzarella and parmesan cheese. Top with 3 lasagna noodles.
- Repeat two more times and add remaining meat sauce to the top of the noodles
